After graduating from college, Harleen Quinzel acquires a job as a psychologist at Arkham Asylum in the hopes of writing a "tell all book" about the super criminals incarcerated there. The Joker immediately piques her interest. After an escape from Joker, he is returned by Batman, beaten & bloodied. An infuriated Harleen storms out of Arkham & returns in costume, to break joker out. they escape together.

harley was dating guy kopski during her last few years of college. for her thesis, her experiment to draw parallels between madness & love caused chaos ; resulting in guy's death, & blackmailing her professor. she remembers him fondly, & thanks him for the results despite the troubling way gotten.
